View Film

The Interface

WatchGameFilm provides a simple yet robust video player that functions well on most devices and web browsers.  Our video player was built using HTML5 and open programming standards.  All film is encoded as MP4 so that it can be universally streamed to an ever increasing market of devices and browsers.

When you first open the video player, you'll be presented with the default view. Below is a screenshot of the default view of our player. Keep in mind that only Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are the two web browsers fully supported in testing thus far.

Film Navigation

Navigating to your desired film has a new look. Below are some of the features found in the Film Navigation box located to the right of the video player and below the team name and logout button.

• Time Period: This shows all of your film for a given time period.  By default, the player is set to This Season. You can change the time period by clicking the drop-down button and selecting the time period of the film(s) you wish to see (This Season or All Seasons). The Library options are for videos that aren't game film, such as helmet fitting education, tackling technique videos, etc.
  
  
• Film Tree: Your film is presented in a branching "tree" format where sub-folders branch out from their parent folder. You can expand the tree by clicking the blue "+" icon next to a folder. Depending on how much film you have uploaded, you may need to click multiple "+" icons to see the film you are looking for.
  
  
• Film Count: A small number tag is located next to the name of an Event, indicating the number of films grouped under that Event (folder).
• Collapse Tree: If you want to collapse the Film Navigation window, then click the Collapse Panel icon located to the right of the [Current Season | All Seasons] drop-down.
  
  

Menu Options

The controls at the bottom of the video player allow you to view the video in multiple ways.  Users can start or stop the video, seek a certain part of the film, view it in slow motion, loop a clip, apply instant replay and more.

Film viewing menu commands from left to right:

• Clip Number
  Displays the number of the current clip with regards to the total number of clips in the film. For example, the above screenshot is currently on the first clip out of 15 clips total. You can jump to a specific clip by clicking the current clip number (i.e. the “1”) and enter the number of the clip you wish to jump to in the field. Press enter and the player will jump to that clip and begin playing it.
   
• Previous Clip
  Click thebutton to jump back to the previous clip. So if you are on clip 2 out of 14, then you’ll jump back to clip 1 out of 14.
  
  
• Rewind
  Click thebutton to rewind the play. The button will turn green when rewinding. You can either click the play button to play the clip where the playhead is at, or click the rewind button again to pause the clip.
  
  
• Play/Pause
  Click tobutton to play the clip. Click it again to pause the clip. You can also click the video player to play/pause the clip as well.
  
  
• Slow Motion
  Click thebutton to play the clip forward in slow motion. The button will turn green when activated. Click the button again to pause the clip where the playhead is located.
  
  
• Instant Replay
  Click thebutton to watch the play again in Instant Replay. Once selected, the player will jump back 5 seconds in the clip from where the playhead was when you clicked Instant Replay, and play that 5 second region in a loop. The button will turn green once Instant Replay is activated. A green selection will also appear on the play bar indicating the region of the clip being played in a loop as shown below. Generally speaking, selecting Instant Replay right when the play ends will catch the play in the entire Instant Replay loop.

• Loop Clip
  Select thebutton to play the entire clip in an endless loop. The button will turn green once selected. To exit the loop, either click the loop button again, or click the Next Clip button to move to the next clip.
  
  
• Video Quality
  All film uploaded to WatchGameFilm is encoded as a High-Definition (HD) copy and a Standard Definition (SD) copy of the film. You can select which video quality your film streams in by selecting the SD/HD button and choosing your desired quality level. The video quality you're watching in is displayed in the bottom right corner of the player. For example, the image directly above is being played in Standard Definition as shown by the SD icon in the bottom right corner of the player. By default, film is played in Standard Definition.
  
  IMPORTANT: In order to view a film in actual HD, the file that is originally uploaded to WatchGameFilm MUST BE IN HIGH DEFINITION (720p or higher). We cannot take a film uploaded in Standard Definition and turn it into a High Definition video. However, we can take a high definition video and scale it down to Standard Definition

• Closed Captions

Click thebutton to open our Closed Captions feature. With Closed Captions, data from the columns you select will display at the top of the video player. See the image below for a visual.

• Volume
  Adjust the volume of the player by hovering over the volume button and moving the slider up or down to adjust volume. You can also click on the volume button to mute the player without having to move the slider.
  
  
• Full Screen (Coming Soon)
  Click theicon to expand the video player and watch in full screen mode. For now, only the film breakdown table and film navigation tree will collapse. In the future this button will expand the player to true full screen mode.
